Opening Act
Dylan McDonald and the Avians
Aug. 7 will be a family affair for the McDon- ent than any band he's been part of.
alds, with Dylan McDonald And The Avians opening for his father, Michael in Libbey Bowl.
Dylan is the lead singer and songwriter, but don't expect him to sound like his father.
“Sometimes it is frustrating because people ex- pect to hear my dad’s iconic voice in me ... and it’s just not there. Musically we are very different,” he said.
The Avians call themselves a “modern rock ’n' roll band,” influenced primarily by rockers of the '60s and '70s.
Drummer Josh Cobb says The Avians are differ-
“It’s a lot more old-school because we record live. It’s all recorded live in the studio and not many bands do that anymore,” said Cobb. “It’s about being together. I enjoy doing these songs that way. To me, it is like showing respect to the past.”
Before The Avians became The Avians, they called themselves Dylan McDonald And The Stay Highs.
“Well, my dad was a Doobie brother,” said Mc- Donald with a laugh.
The Avians' latest album, “Fueled By The Dreams of The Future,” is available on digital outlets and dis- tributed by Chronin Records. The band is hard at work on their third studio album.
