OjaIin 2008, a bookstore in the middle of Ojai's Arcade, Local Hero, closed its doors. It was the last local shop that sold new books to the com- munity.
Bart's Books, Ojai’s iconic out- door, used bookstore began selling new books to fill that void.
Much has been written about Bart's — the bookstore that lists its closing hour as “sunset” and until re- cently had a large oak tree growing in its commercial center, but few realize the store has a growing selection of new books.
General manager Matt Henriksen said customers have the option to purchase popular new works without leaving town. He also uses his bur- geoning collection of new volumes as a means to spread new ideas through- out the community.
