It has been a few years since a Nordhoff High School football team has been able to overcome adversity during a game and come away with a victory. That changed Aug. 25 when the Rangers took on a tough Hueneme Viking team on the road and overcame deficits twice to pull out a 23-20 come-from-behind victory.
Things didn’t look good for the Rangers early on. After their opening drive stalled, NHS punted the ball to Hueneme and the Vikings wasted little time getting on the board. On Hueneme’s first play from scrimmage, Viking quarterback Robert Baca found senior wide out Andy Romero streaking down the field and the two connected for a lighting-fast, 60-yard touchdown strike.
