Two football programs join forces to build for future

Lance Wiggins is busy preparing for his first season as Nordhoff’s football coach, but he also is finding time to prepare for the future by strengthening ties with the Ojai Eagles Youth Football organization.

“In order to have a good program at the high school level, you have to have a good youth program,” Wiggins explained. “We’re trying to cross-pollinate our programs. It’s our feeder program and it’s a big, big part of a successful program.”

Wiggins plans to have a coaching clinic with Nordhoff’s staff working with the Eagles’ coaches



Sundowner Golf League leader board getting tight just before break in second-half action

The Sundowner Golf League returned to action Tuesday at Soule Park Golf Course. The greens recently received an aeration treatment and usa levitra look here players found putting to be quite difficult, so scores were lower than usual.

Deason’s Wildcats only one game from World Series title

Cody Deason went from playing catcher in the early part of his junior year at Nordhoff High School (above) to being one of the nation’s best pitching prospects and now he is one win away from a College World Series title.

Last weekend, Cody Deason and the Arizona Wildcats advanced to the finals of the College World Series against Coastal Carolina and now the former Nordhoff High School standout is just one victory away from a NCAA championship.

Nordhoff swim team brings back one of its own to coach

Nordhoff High School recently announced the return of Jermaine Britton, who will take over as boys’ and girls’ water polo coach at his alma mater. Britton has been a coach and teacher at Villanova Preparatory School for the last 12 years, but said the offer to return to NHS was too good to turn down.

“I am very thankful for this opportunity and I think it is coming at a great time,” he said. While at VPS, Britton started with a water polo program that had



Ojai Eagles kick off 2016 activities with annual golf scramble

The Ojai Eagles youth football league will host its annual four-person Ojai Scramble Golf Tournament at the Soule Park Golf Course July 23 at 10 a.m. The fundraising event helps the youth football program purchase proper equipment for player safety. For $110, players get a round of golf with a cart, box lunch, goodie bag and raffle tickets. The tournament will be played using the Calloway Handicap System. Front Nine: Brown, Malzone grind out a victory

The Soule Park Ladies Front Nine golf club opened its summer session on the back nine this past week on a perfect golf day, weather-wise. The course has recently had the greens plugged and sanded making the challenge game of the week — fewest putts — more challenging.

Nordhoff High school was represented by Luke Boyd and Spencer Yates in this year’s Ventura County all-star baseball game, played Sunday afternoon at Conejo Creek Park.

Caleb McNeil helped his team shoot up the overall standings and take a commanding lead in the Sundowner Golf League second-half standings Tuesday afternoon. McNeil, a recent Nordhoff High School graduate, shot a gross round of even-par 36 to earn his team 26 points, the most of any player this year and just one point off the 30-year-old Sundowner record of 27 points in a day. Nordhoff football cautiously optimistic about new CIF playoff format

With the start of the 2016 high school football season quickly approaching, the Nordhoff High School (NHS) Rangers are busy with summer passing league and are looking ahead to August when they hit the practice field for two-a-day sessions.
In addition to putting in off-season work, area football programs also received news last week the playoff structure for the CIF Southern Section will be shifting. Rather than basing playoff spots off final league play standings and at large berths, the new structure



Babcock shines in seniors tourney

The Soule Park Senior Men’s Golf Club held a low-net tournament last week on its home course. After tallying the scorecards, the first flight was won by Roy Rodriguez who shot a 73 on the day. Just behind Rodriguez was Bill Hatch, who came home with a 74, just one stroke off the lead.
The second flight also was close as Al Gross carded a 69, just two shots ahead of Mike Hercher, who recorded a final round of 71. In the third and final flight of the day, Dale Babcock coasted to a victory with a final score of 64. Coming in second place, with a final

Cody Deason and the Arizona Wildcats are currently 1-1 in the College World Series. They will face UCSB in an elimination game Wednesday that will be televised on ESPN.

Ojai Valley resident Cody Deason continues to live the dream of every college baseball player in the country. Deason and the University of Arizona Wildcats are playing in the College World Series where the city of Omaha has rolled out the red carpet for eight Division 1 college baseball programs.
