Villanova B-ballers slam dunk
the opposition
by Misty Volaski
As the buzzer rang last Friday, signaling the end of the Villanova/Laguna
Blanca boys' basketball game, the Ojai Valley gained yet another
league champion. The Wildcats and the Owls duked it out in an
extremely close game last week, with Villanova netting one more
basket than Laguna Blanca.
The Wildcats claimed the lead in the first half, 26-23. Though
the Owls were never able to pull ahead of Villanova, they were
never far behind, always within three points of the undefeated
'Cats.
Clark Tevis of VPS sank in two three-pointers and was 4-5 from
the free throw line. Djadji Daffe, one of the CIF Southern Section's
top rebounders, had 14 points. Nate Langelier added seven points
and seven rebounds to bring the Wildcat boys to the win.
The second-place Lady Wildcats had a much easier time, however,
taking Cornerstone Christian for a ride, 34-19.
Katie Jones had her first triple-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds,
and 10 steals. "The other Katie," Katie Parziale, had
six points two steals, two assists and a school record-breaking
21 rebounds.
Though Villanova kept Cornerstone at bay for the majority of
the game, they failed to keep the pressure on one Cornerstone
player, who everntually scored all her team's points.
If the girls beat Thacher today, they will retain their second-place
title. However a Toad win would leave them tied for second.
Villanova's two varsity basketball teams will go on to CIF playoffs.
