Toads eliminated in second
round CIF
by Misty Volaski
The disadvantage to being a Condor League team is that the
regular season competition isn't typically difficult, Thacher's
girls' soccer coach Fred Coleman said. "The better teams
show you where you need to improve. La Salle showed us our weaknesses,"
Coleman said.
La Salle's 7-0 victory over the Toads means that Thacher is now
eliminated from California Interscholastic Federation playoffs.
The girls, who beat Oakwood in their first round game, 1-0, were
outplayed by La Salle's far-superior team.
"We expected we'd have a hard time, but we didn't think
they'd be as good as they were," Coleman remarked.
La Salle's older squad had much more experience than the younger
Toads, Coleman said.
With a score of 6-0 at halftime, "The girls were mentally
blown away," Coleman added. But the girls were able to play
hard until the end, despite La Salle's powerful forwards, who
were able to easily dribble around the Toads.
Coleman hoped the match would be a learning experience for Thacher's
team.
