'Cat spikers ace Rangers, 3-0
by Misty Volaski

Nordhoff's boys' varsity volleyball team opened their spring season with a loss Tuesday to valley rival Villanova.
The two Ojai teams played at Villanova, where the Wildcats used their home-court advantage to the fullest of their ability.
Villanova swept Nordhoff in all three matches, winning 15-5, 15-10, 15-10.
Leading the Wildcats was Cole Gibson, with 17 kills and six blocks. He was followed by John Bluhm with 11 kills and three aces. Nate Langelier, previously of Villanova's boys' varsity basketball team, had 10 kills and four blocks.
Setter Ryo Kuwata had 37 assists.
Because Villanova's boys' varsity basketball squad was so successful in their Winter 2002 season, the volleyball team had very limited gymnasium time.
VPS coach Jason Burt commented that his team had gotten to practice only three times before their first game. With such limited practice time, Burt said, "We're a good team, and everyone will contribute this year. We just hope to control the net."
