VPS V-ballers fall to Laguna

The Villanova Wildcats lost their first game of the year last
Wednesday to Laguna Blanca.
Coach Jason Burt was surprised at the loss, saying, "We
gave away game four. We were up 7-0 and then they capitalized
on some mistakes we made." However Burt feels confident
that "we can catch them in the next (game)."
Villanova took command over the first game, winning 15-7. The
Wildcats slacked off in the second game to lose 9-15, only to
take back a win in the third game, 12-15.
The fourth game tied it up, with Laguna Blanca winning 15-8,
and finished the Wildcats off, 11-15, to win the game.
Despite the loss, Villanova's Cole Gibson had 31 kills and seven
blocks on the night. Teammate Nate Langelier followed, with 19
kills and nine blocks. John Bluhm logged in with 11 kills of
his own, while first-year player Chris Gerhart nailed six kills.
Villanova setter Ryo Kuwata was all over the court, making 43
assists against Laguna Blanca.
In CIF, Villanova is ranked number eight, while Laguna Blanca
is ranked number five. Both teams play in the Condor League.
The loss leaves Villanova with a record of 7-1 overall 2-1 in
league.
