Ranger golfers split two league
contests
by Misty Volaski
For the second year in a row, Nordhoff's varsity golf team
defeated Santa Paula at Soule Park Golf Course. Last year's team,
which included current Ranger standouts Andrew Bonsignori and
Mike Bensley, creamed the Cardinals, 363-424.
As expected, coach Dick Sebek's squad did the same thing this
year, posting a 404, 72 strokes under Santa Paula's 476.
Ranger Nathan VanEtten paced the Rangers with a four-over-par
76. Teammates Bonsignori and Bensley shot a 77 and an 80, respectively.
Two days later, the Rangers were defeated by Calabasas, 400-433
at Calabasas Country Club. Nordhoff, which beat Calabasas last
year for a share of the Frontier League championship, definitely
felt the disadvantage of playing on an unfamiliar course.
Nordhoff's Bensley (81) and Tyler Brown (86) lead the Rangers
in scoring. None of the Rangers broke 80, a fairly uncommon occurrence
for Nordhoff's golfers.
Nordhoff will play today in the Oak Park Tournament at Sterling
Hills Golf Course with seversl other teams from the area.
