Thacher claws 'Cats', 14-0
by Misty Volaski
Sometimes, even the mercy rule's five innings is too much.
For Villanova, two or three would have sufficed to show that
Thacher had the far-superior baseball team.
Villanova's 14-0 loss came as no surprise to spectators and players
alike. In their three games, Thacher has held Villanova to just
a few hits, while totaling 40 runs and shutting out the Wildcats
15-0, 11-0 and 14-0 this season.
Thacher's top sluggers, Jimmy Madigan, Charlie Munzig and Graham
Douds, have combined to overwhelm the Wildcat defense time and
time again, paving the way for the Toads' three wins.
Last Friday's game completed Thacher's sweep of Villanova, with
14 runs off 14 hits and one error.
The top hitter for Thacher was pitcher Madigan, who went three
for four with two RBIs and crossed home plate three times. Another
Thacher pitcher, Munzig, was also two for three with two RBIs
and a home run.
Teammate Dan Bartlett, who went two for three in at the plate,
drove in three and scored once. Catcher Brenton Sullivan was
perfect at bat, going three for three with three runs scored,
as well. Two more RBIs came from Cameron Robertson.
Defensively, Madigan pitched all five innings for Thacher, giving
up two hits and striking out nine Wildcats.
The win is Thacher's 11th in a row, and improves their record
to 14-3 overall.
