VPS softball girls head to
CIF playoffs
by Misty Volaski
Villanova Prep finished its regular season Thursday at home
against Laguna Blanca, defeating the visitors 17-11. In their
last meeting, the Wildcats played Laguna in Santa Barbara, where
they easily won the game 15-5 in a five-inning game called on
the mercy rule. This game was much different. Laguna jumped out
to an early lead, scoring eight times in the first inning. However,
the Wildcats fought back, tying the game in the fourth inning.
Junior Tiffany Adams, who had a career day going three for four
with a pair of home runs at crucial moments, and four RBIs, led
the Wildcat offense. Adams is currently hitting .343. Pitcher
Katie Jones (5-2) went four for five with a home run, double
and three RBIs. Jones is currently one of the leading hitters
in Ventura County with .633 average.
Teammate Kristen Handley went two for five, scored twice and
drove in three Wildcats. Hitting lead-off, sophomore Jessica
Campbell continued her streak of stolen bases. Campbell went
two for five with three walks, five runs and 10 stolen bases.
Campbell, who is batting .400, is currently ranked second in
Ventura County with 46 stolen bases.
Last week at the annual sports award banquet, Katie Jones and
Kristen Handley were named as co-MVPs, and Stephanie Desantis
was named the most improved player.
The win earned the Wildcats a berth in the CIF playoffs. They
will play area teams in hopes of making it to CIF finals later
in the month.
