OVAC A squad falls 5-10 as B team gets shut out in league
by Misty Volaski

OVAC's A and B water polo teams found the second week of Gold Coast Summer Water Polo League tougher going.
The B's faced Gold Coast 2 and did manage to play tough polo but fell short, 5-10. Ojai's Ernie Smith had two assists and a pair of steals feeding Elise Santangelo for one of her two goals. Scottie Roberts had an assist, a defensive stop and a goal for Ojai, while teammate Eli McDonald added a trio of steals, a defensive stop and a goal.
Taylor Wolfe had two steals and a shot on goal, making his OVAC debut with two defensive stops was Ryan Kennedy, while the seasoned Garrison Harward platooned in the field and the goal and combined for eight saves, three defensive stops and four steals. Seth Scarminach netted three steals, an assist and a goal.
OVAC A's were skunked for the very first time in the program's history. South Coast Blue shut out Ojai, with 18 goals to none. South Coast's scoring was balanced with Peter Kurzeka, Mikey Blanchard, Daniel Smith, Chase Servino and Ryan Balikian all contributing at least one goal. South Coast had a masterful shutout performance by Johnny Pere in goal with 10 stops.
Bright spots for Ojai were Molly Katz's two shots on goal and three steals, Ben Foley's four steals and two shots and Garrison Harward's blocked penalty shot in the net.
Next week OVAC's B's face Gold Coast 1 and the A's look to regroup and take it out on Golden Bay.
