· A reader sends a thumbs-up for the best coffee in the world at the Ojai Coffee Roasting Co.

· A reader sends a big thumbs-up to Steve's Detail and crew for volunteering three hours of their time to the Nordhoff Pep Squad Car Wash. What a nice bunch of guys.

· A reader sends a thumbs-up to all of the participants and spectators of Ojai's Independence Day activities, to the quick work of the cleanup crew after the parade, and to the OVN for pictures the very next day.

· A reader sends a thumbs-up to the Ojai Recreation Department for its Yellow Racket Program at Lower Libbey. Free use of rackets and balls gave her a chance to try tennis for the first time and she had a blast!

· A reader sends a thumbs-up to the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy for very sensibly trimming the eucalyptus grove on the Ojai Meadows Preserve so as to minimize risk in a dangerous year for fires.

· A reader sends a thumbs-up to Ojai Unified School District administrators Dr. Riley and Dr. Baird for an incredible first year, managing to focus on what's best for the community, teachers and, most importantly, the children during a year full of challenges.

· A reader sends a thumbs-up to Sue Raney, the Henry Mancini Alumni Big Band and conductor Patrick Williams for a great Ojai Salute, thanks to Ojai Music Festival organizers.

· A reader sends a thumbs-up to the men and women from the Ojai Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion for their outstanding patriotism in leading Ojai's Fourth of July parade.

· A reader sends a huge thumbs-down to whoever cut down the nice little apricot tree on the corner lot by 206 N. Signal St. between Wells Fargo Bank and El Paseo offices. The tree was in full bloom, never caused any kind of mess and yearly brought great joy to the people passing by who would pick a juicy apricot to eat or a little batch to take home and make a cobbler or something. What a cruel waste!

· A reader sends a thumbs-down to the mean-spirited, spiteful individuals who drizzled sticky syrup on spectators' sidewalk chairs parked in front of the museum before the parade. How shameful. How unneighborly.

· A reader sends a thumbs-down to people who blame Suza Francina for the Montgomery bulb-outs. Traffic calming does not mean traffic obstruction.
