Sunshine still on top
by Misty Volaski
Sunshine Carpets is still on top of the Ojai Valley Men's
Softball Association League. With a shutout and two convincing
wins last week, the team seems nearly invincible in league.
Though Rowe had to forfeit due to a lack of players, they still
played Sunshine, only to go scoreless to Sunshine's seven runs.
In last Sunday's games, Sunshine was again at the top of its
game, with a 11-6 win over Ojai Optical. Sunshine's Mike Montoya
went three for three, all of which resulted in singles. Teammate
Joey Vega was two for three for Sunshine. For Ojai Optical, it
was all Steve Perez, who had two singles off of three at bats.
Though Ojai Optical had the early lead, Sunshine came back in
the fifth inning, scoring six runs followed by two more in the
sixth for the win, 11-6.
Chemolene/OST, currently in fifth overall (7-4), knocked Rowe
around for an 18-2 win. Chemolene/OST player Tony Hart led the
game with three singles and three RBIs on the day, while Rocky
Colburn added two singles, a double and an RBI. Mike Gates followed,
singling and doubling and contributing two RBIs.
The Ojai Valley Men's Softball Association and women's league
play throughout the summer at Sarzotti Park.
