Kirby takes second tourney
in two weeks
by Misty Volaski
After two days of competition, the Ojai City Junior Golf title
came down to a final putt on the 18th green at the Ojai Valley
Inn. Ryan Kirby, a Villanova senior, won his own City Junior
Tournament by sinking a 10-foot putt on the final hole after
watching his closest competitor, Tyson Briner, miss his final
15 footer.
Briner, a senior at Buena High School finished the tournament
one stroke behind Kirby with a two-day total of 149 (74 the first
day and 75 the second).
Kirby started the tournament at Soule Park with a round of 75
and closed with a 73 at the Ojai Valley Inn for a total of 148.
This was the second Ventura County Junior Golf Association win
for Kirby in two weeks. Last week he won the Ventura City Junior
Championship with scores of 74 at Buenaventura and a 73 at Olivas
Golf Course.
Kirby is considered one of Villanova's key players and leaders
as co-captain of the VPS squad.
