Sunshine dazzles in OVMSA
championship
by Misty Volaski
After leading the Ojai Valley Men's Softball Association overall
and in Division I play for nearly the entire summer season, Sunshine
Carpets came out on top again last weekend in the league's Championship
tournament.
Though OST/Chemolene came from the losers' bracket to play Sunshine,
OST was able to keep up with Sunshine for much of the game, tying
in the first inning, 2-2, and pulling ahead slightly in the third,
8-7. It seemed as if OST could very well have taken the game
by the fourth inning, where they remained in the lead by two
runs.
However, after trailing for two innings, Sunshine Carpets jumped
back into the game, driving in 11 runs in the fifth inning.
Of their 11 runs in one inning, Sunshine assistant manager Mike
Montoya said, "When one guy starts to hit, it's contagious.
When someone gets hot, we all get hot. And they had a couple
of errors and that really opened the door for us."
Sunshine Carpets has won seven championship trophies and one
second place trophy in the past nine years.
