Buddy Burgers chomps Quete
for Coors title
by Misty Volaski
With temperatures in the 100s all weekend, it is a wonder
that so many showed up at Sarzotti park to watch and play in
the three-day Coors Softball Tournament.
However nearly 30 teams from around the county battled the heat
and each other to officially bid Ojai's summer softball season
adieu.
Buddy Burgers, the eventual winner, charged through the winner's
bracket, besting Joe's Quick Stop, Green Bottlers, Bad and finally
Quete for the championship title.
Quete, who ran circles around the losers bracket teams, advanced
to the finals to go head-to-head with Buddy Burgers, a historically
big-winning team.
Though Quete led, 3-2, in the first inning, and later in the
fourth scored four runs, it was Buddy Burgers who had the mightier
bat.
Buddy Burgers took the championship, 12-8.
Third-place all-tournament winners were:
· John Cabillo
· Robert Morales
· Ray DeSantos
Second-place all-tournament winners were:
· Chris Escabor
· Rich Tapasano
· Billy Alinzo
First-place all-tournament winners were:
· Tim Green
· Will Mackelburg
· Donnie Dimello
The all-tournament Most Valuable Player was Jeremy Lipton, of
Buddy Burgers.
