Rangers finish second in Frontier
League golf
by Misty Volaski
The Lady Ranger golf squad is full of surprises this year.
Led by seniors Jody Peter and Kristin Johnson, Nordhoff's playoff
chances are looking bright.
The team will continue to play in the Frontier League individuals
tomorrow. Those who qualify will play in the CIF individuals
contest.
And because they finished second this year in league behind the
8-0 LaReina squad, Nordhoff (6-2, 12-4) also advances to the
CIF Tournament, which will take place at the Santa Barbara Golf
Club Nov. 12.
The Rangers finished up regular season play last week with two
wins against both FIllmore and Oaks Christian.
At Elkins Ranch (par 36), Nordhoff bested the Fillmore Flashes,
250-306.
Peter shot a career-best 39 on the day while teammate Kristin
Johnson followed with a 42. Rounding out the top five were Breann
Keller, posting 52, Lauren Stafford, posting 56, and Daron Hope,
posting 61.
Nordhoff fared even better when they played on home turf against
Oaks Christian.
Rangers Peter and Johnson both shot a four-above-par 40, while
Keller and Stafford improved upon their previous scores with
a 49 and 53, respectively. Newcomer Joanne Wang posted a 58 and
Emilie Brucato managed a 59.
Nordhoff captured the win, 240-309.
Other girls on the team include Whitney Baird, Michelle Brunkhurst,
Brooke Charolla, Darby Morgan, Elena Owen, and Jolene (Jojo)
Reed.
