League leaders contend for tourney title, bragging rights

The Ojai Recreation Department's softball league tournaments have been going on all this week and will continue into the weekend and next week if needed. The following is a rundown of all the tournament information so far.
Coed B League
Brue's Body Shop and R&R Fire Protection move to the winner's bracket.
With the season officially over, the tournaments began earlier this week. The winner will be crowned next week, and will take the trophy and the bragging rights - the latter being the more sought-after prize.
First-place Brue's Body shop faced off against the C league's Bat Busters. The Busters were one up in the third, but fell seven runs short of catching the hard-hitting Brue's crew. For Brue's, lead-off batters Bev Critcher and John Lowe both hit a perfect three for three, each with three singles and scoring a total of four runs.
The Edwards family held the top bats for the Busters with Trinity Edwards powering a solo home run and a triple, and Brian Edwards batting three for three with a single and two doubles in the lead-off spot. The final score was 18-11, Brue's.
Third-place R&R Fire Protection pulled off an upset over second place Jim and Rob's Fresh Grill. Fresh Grill scored in every inning, but couldn't catch the hard-hitting R&R. The top batters for R&R were Lori Jacoby, who singled and scored, Rick Rodarte, who singled twice and scored three times. For Jim and Rob's, Pam Medina doubled with one RBI while pitcher Matt Winter doubled, drove in two runners and slammed in a home run. The final score was R&R 18, Jim and Rob's 8.
Wrec Crew faced off against the Bat Busters. Wrec Crew fell seven runs short of catching the Busters. The final score was Bat Busters 21, Wrec Crew 14. Andra Edwards and Ryan Aikens led the Busters, Edwards with two singles, and Aikens with three hits out of four attempts and a single, a double, and a home run. For Wrec Crew, Vicki Perez singled and had a home run while Rob Lasby went four-for-five with two singles and two triples.
Other big batters: For Wolfpack, Coleen Cody doubled and Matt Buck batted a perfect five-for-five for the evening, with three singles and two doubles. Josh Currior went three for five with two singles, a home run and two RBIs.
Both Brue's Body Shop and R&R Fire Protection won two to move on through the winner's bracket in the double-elimination tournament, leaving Jim and Rob's Fresh Grill and Bat Busters to battle it out through the losers' bracket. Play continues Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Coed C League
Bat Busters, Shanda's and Silver Bullets in close race for tournament title.
In Bat Buster's game against Shanda's in Oak View, Shanda's scored six runs in the third to take a four-run lead. The Busters replied with a 10-run inning in the bottom of the fourth, and held Shanda's to six more runs to finish the game. In the end, Bat Buster's came out on top, 20-12.
Top batters for Bat Busters were Celina Knowles, batting two for four with two singles, Brian Edwards, going four for four with four singles, and Travis Tolliver powered a center field grand slam to drive in four runners. For Shanda's, Karen Husted singled and scored, lead-off Rick Frosh batted four for four with three singles and a double.
In a do-or-die game, The Gables of Ojai faced CIF/Silver Bullets. In the bottom of the seventh, with two outs, Silver Bullet Danny Frazier doubled to tie the game, and teammate John Barrios singled to bring in the winning run. The final score was Silver Bullets 15, Gables 14. The top batters for the Silver Bullets were Jessica Pardee, batting two for four with two singles. Teammate Danny Frazier singled twice and homered once. For The Gables, Mallory Hinks batted three-for-four with three singles while Josh Hinks hit a perfect three-for-three with a single and two doubles.
Ojai Valley Community Church was matched against Aera Energy. Amy Lasby held one of the top bats for Aera, going four-for-six with three singles and a triple. Ray Fraser brought out the power with a double and two home runs. For OVCC, Tim Beckett hit for the cycle with a single, double, triple and home run.
With the tournament trophy hanging in the balance, Bat Busters and CIF/Silver Bullets continue through the winners' bracket for the second week of the tournament. Shanda's will play off against CIF/Silverbullets next week with the winner advancing to the playoffs against Bat Busters for the title.
Men's League
Men's League will begin tournament play this Sunday.
With wins over both Wolfpack and the Oak View Outlaws, Ojai Optical ends the season with a 14-4 record in first place. The top batters for Ojai Optical were Paul Perce who went three-for-three with two singles, a double, two RBIs.
Wolfpack's James Feathers hit two for three with two RBIs and a home run, while Billie Brocamonte stroked three singles. Ron Acosta hit two-for-two with a single and a double for The Outlaws.
Ryan's Feed (13-5) swept two to take second place. Against Wolfpack and OVCC, Ryan's top players were Terry Schleicher, who singled once, doubled twice and homered once. Mike McGraw went three for three with a sacrifice, two singles and a double, while Troy Knight contributed two singles and a triple. Tim Beckett led the way for the OVCC, hitting three singles to go with his three RBIs and home run. Lonnie Stafford delivered three singles and a double, and teammate-coach Don Smith ripped two singles and a triple.
Andria's Seafood split for the day with a win over Pat's Liquor/Frank's Rooter Service, and a loss to Oak View Outlaws. The big batters for Andria's included Chris Oakland, with a single, double and three RBIs. For Pat's, Randy Russell homered and added three RBIs, while Bobby Lang banged out a single and two doubles. Outlaw's lead-off batter Rick Cruz nabbed two singles, and crushed a left field home run, three RBIs. Left fielder Juan Perez rounded out the top bats, with three singles and four scores.
The season-ending single elimination tournament will be held Sunday, starting at 2:30 p.m.
