Matilija's lady netters open league with three-point loss

On Dec. 5, the Matilija Eagles fell in overtime to Freemont Junior. High's A team, 36-33. Matilija got off to a slow start, being down by as many as 10 points early in the game. Behind Bailey Eells' 13 points, and Amanda Callaway's 10 points, the Eagles were able to force a tie by the end of regulation. Freemont's offense prevailed as Matilija's defense came up just short in overtime.
In the second league game, played on Dec. 12, Matilija was victorious against Freemont Junior High's B team, 42-34. Cassandra Van Keulen, Sarah Bledsoe, and Hannah Hoffman powered Matilija's offense with 27 points combined. The Eagles' Lisee Moore and Jordan Clegg contributed on defense by blocking shots and rebounding.
The Eagles are coached by Bob Buckingham and assisted by Melissa Loe. The team members are: Sara Bledsoe, Megan Borchardt, Lilly Buckinham, Amanda Callaway, Jordan Clegg, Kayla Durrett, Bailey Eells, Hannah Hoffman, Lindsay Kroener, Lisee Moore, and Casandra Van Keulen.
