Morris to represent NHS, USA color guard in Paris
by Misty Volaski

As we speak, Ashley Morris is preparing to leave for Paris, France, where she will represent Nordhoff, Ventura County and America in two parades - as part of the USA Color Guard team.
One of the parades will be on New Year's Eve, and the other will be on New Year's Day in Disneyland in Paris.
And to think, all this began as an "easy" way to get physical education credits for Nordhoff.
But it was a bit more complicated than she'd anticipated, she said. "We have choreographed routines, and we march with the flags and other props," Ashley said.
Throughout the past four years, Ashley has been part of NHS's color guard squad, winning competitions all four years. Last year, the team won first place in all three of its competitions.
With Nordhoff, Ashley's color guard team and the entire NHS band went to USC with 53 other schools from across the country to perform at halftime. She also went with the band to Hawaii and New Orleans in past years.
And earlier this year, when Ashley went to USA Color Guard Camp, one of her coaches recommended she fill out an application to be considered for the USA team's trip to Paris.
"She was the only one from Ventura County to be picked to go," said proud mom Tayni.
So what's next after Paris? Who knows, Ashley said. "I'm not sure yet. Maybe culinary arts school. I like food," she added with a laugh.
Ashley also participates in the 4-H Scrapbooking Club, and sits on the 4-H Ventura County Council.
It took a lot of work and practice to get this far, Ashley noted, but it also took the support of several people.
"I'd like to thank Bronk-Vreeland Ford and Shanda's of Oak View and everyone who has supported me," Ashley added.
