ORD coed softball begins season with four-way tie

Bat Busters, The New Ojai Frostie, Vista Ford, and Shanda's in Oak View each split for the evening to start the new Ojai Recreation Department coed softball season with a four way tie for first.
The New Ojai Frostie was cooking in the first game of the night. Facing Vista Ford, the Frostie pulled ahead by two runs through the first five innings. In the top of the fifth, The Ojai Frostie batted through their lineup to come up with a sizzling eight runs, four of which came from a grand slam by Josh Hinks. In the bottom of the seventh, Vista Ford member Jessy Cox slammed a solo home run, but Vista was unable to close the gap. The final score was The New Ojai Frostie 17, Vista Ford 8.
The veteran team, Bat Busters broke it open in the sixth to take the victory over Shanda's. Bat Busters took the early lead ahead by five after three innings. Shanda's rallied in the bottom of the fourth to tie the score 13-13. In the final inning, Buster Travis Tolliver tripled in teammates Celina Lowe and Joey Wallhausen, to go ahead by two. First baseman Julie Knowles put the icing on the cake with a home run to left field.
The final score was Bat Busters 19, Shanda's 13.

The hot hitters:
The New Ojai Frostie (1-1):
· Dena Elshere had two singles in four at-bats.
· Larry Elshere went four for five with two singles, a double, and a triple.
· Shortstop Eric Elshere slammed a single, double, and a triple, plating three.
Vista Ford(1-1):
· First baseman Colleen Cody singled.
· Forest Hutton slammed a pair of home runs and scored twice.
· Team coach Roy Leckbee singled and homered.
Bat Busters(1-1):
· Julie Knowles stroked a double and home run.
· Celina Lowe singled three times.
· Pitcher Ron Tolliver went four for five with two singles, a double, and a first-inning home run.
· Mike Thorpe was a perfect five for five with three singles, and two home runs.
Shanda's in Oak View(1-1):
· Denise Stoltz hit for the cycle with a single, double, triple, and home run.
· Lacy Albrent also homered.
· James Torres singled twice, doubled and pounded a home run.
· T.J. Hanna had two singles, a double and a home run.
Play continues Monday night, starting at 7 p.m. at Sarzotti Park.
