ORD B League Softball
The Avenue Boyz saw their first-place lead slip away with a loss
to Frank's Rooter Service last week in the Ojai Recreation Department's
Softball B League. With both defenses on their game, runs were
hard to come by. Frank's opened the first inning with a run scored
by Matt Villegas. Holding the Boyz to only one run in four innings
of play, the Rooter boys took a three-run advantage. Over the
next three innings, the Avenue Boyz were unable to close the
gap and remained three runs short.
The final score was Frank's Rooter Service 9, Avenue Boyz, 6.
Third-place Chuy's created a cushion, by batting through their
lineup in the first inning and scoring four runs in the second,
for a total of 14 runs. The Silver Bullets team, known for their
home run hitting, did not let their fans down. In the first
three innings, home runs were belted by Chuy Cornado, Terry Schleicher,
Steve Wilson, Randy Villa, and Barry Bluhm, to come within six
runs of Chuy's. With a quiet fifth inning, it came down to the
final sixth inning.
The home run hitters were back in force for the Bullets, with
Chuy Cornado again slamming a solo home run, to help bring their
final score to 22. Undaunted, Chuy's John Fitzpatrick homered
to right center to bring in three of the five runs that took
the 24-22 victory.
