· A reader sends a thumbs-up to the compassionate couple who allowed her into their home when she was being chased by an agressive road rager.

· Several readers send a thumbs-up to the city for fixing the chimes at the post office so they ring on the hour again.

· A reader sends a thumbs-up to Pat Weinberger for her moving tribute to Fred Volz. And thumbs-up, way up, to Pat and others who fought those many battles along with Fred.

· A reader sends a thumbs-up to the thoughtful lady who found the reader's checkbook in the Vons parking lot, went to the trouble of looking up her phone number, contacted her husband and returned it within an hour. She is a hero!

· A reader sends a thumbs down to the city of Ojai for misleading the housing tract behind Vons when they told us that they were going to plant tree-friendly trees in our neighborhood, when, in fact, they were going to plant oak trees. Look around, there isn't one oak tree in this neighborhood, so why plant a oak tree that will stick out like a sore thumb? Plant a tree that will blend in with this housing tract.

· A reader sends a thumbs-down to the person who hit the red chow on Feb. 8 and didn't even bother to stop. The dog is going to be dearly missed.
