Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down for the week ending May 9, 2003

· A reader sends a thumbs-up to the fellow at Circle K who bailed him out on Easter Sunday night. Your good deed will be repaid with interest!

· Readers send a thumbs-up to 9-1-1, firefighters, paramedics and Ojai Valley Community Hospital, who responded quickly to their emergency. Ojai is lucky to have all the emergency personnel. Thank you, they are grateful.

· A reader sends a thumbs-up to Jessica Murray and her volunteers at the Community Assistance Project (C.A.P.), which is a division of Help of Ojai. Murray and friends should be commended for their efforts in coordinating and bringing holiday joy through their Adopt-A-Family program to more than 200 families a year. Let's not forget their hard work now that the weather is turning sunny; C.A.P. is available all year for the needy residents of Ojai.

· A reader sends a thumbs-up to Wanda Sisk-Martin of Heritage Financial for her huge donation of school supplies to Mira Monte School, in this time of need.

· A reader sends a thumbs-down to the people responsible for the new Cluff Vista Park. The low-maintenance shrubbery and overall condition looks unkempt, uncared-for and overgrown, similar to what the triangle looked like before all that money was spent to supposedly make it beautiful.

· A reader sends a thumbs-down to the landlord who is terminating the lease for The Barking Lot, Karen Klingberg's wonderful pet day-care center that provides pet owners with a safe, nurturing, happy place to leave their dogs when they have to be away. We don't have another.
