Ranger lady hitters out of CIF after wildcard
loss
The Nordhoff softball team met
its match in a wildcard playoff meeting with the St. Joseph's
Knights of Santa Maria on Tuesday afternoon. After six and a
half innings, the homestanding Knights walked off with a convincing
4-1 victory.
The Nordhoff bats were quiet all day and two costly Ranger errors
allowed three runs to score for the Knights.
St. Joseph's scored one run in the first inning, two more in
the fourth and one in the fifth, after Nordhoff plated its lone
tally of the day.
Rachelle Madrid pitched well in a loss that dropped her record
to 5-6 on the year. Coach Tom Husted called her performance "a
fine effort." Unfortunately for Madrid, her teammates couldn't
pick up the offense. The Rangers managed just two hits for the
ball game.
Nordhoff ends a fairly successful year 11-10-1 overall, while
St. Joseph's, which finished third in the Los Padres League,
advances to play Buena in a CIF Southern Section first- round
playoff game.
