Lake Casitas Free Fishing Day
Lake Casitas Recreation Area, in conjunction with the Department of Fish and Game, would like to encourage those who do not have a fishing license to come to the lake for a License Free Fishing Day on Saturday. License Free Fishing Day is intended to bring out individuals who are new to the sport and want to give it a try. On Saturday only, fishing will be allowed without the usual requirement of a fishing license. All other fishing regulations such as bag and size limits, gear restrictions and fishing hours will be enforced.
For fishing or boat rental information, call the Casitas Marina at 649-2043 or for additional information on the Lake Casitas Recreation Area, call the Front Gate at 649-2233.

ORD offers youth indoor soccer league
The Ojai Recreation Department will be holding and indoor soccer league for youths in two divisions: fourth- to sixth-grade and seventh- to ninth-grade. The league will play Fridays, at either 7:15 or 8:30 p.m., in the ORD gym June 27 to Aug. 8. The cost is $20 per player, ($23 if non-resident), with a maximum of 32 players per division. Registration deadline is June 25.

Nordhoff girls' basketball tryouts start June 23
Tryouts for all Nordhoff incoming freshmen to senior girls who want to play basketball in the 2003-2004 season will be June 23 and 24 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Rangers can join 03-04 Color Guard
Nordhoff Color Guard is a team of performers who use flags and other props to enhance choreography performed in conjunction with the yearly NHS marching band field show and parades. The NHS color guard took first place in their division in all competitions entered in 2002. Coach Holly Bassuk is holding open auditions for the 2003-2004 guard Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Nordhoff cafeteria. Tryouts are open to all Nordhoff High School freshmen through seniors. Performances include the Ojai Fourth of July parade, six home game halftime shows, six to seven local tournaments and possible televised halftime performance.
There will be two separate weeks of morning summer camp: June 30 to July 4 and Aug. 18 through 26.
Rehearsals are 2:30 to 4 p.m. during the regular season (September to December). You can earn one semester of physical education credit for being on the team.

ORD adult basketball leagues start July 7
Adult basketball leagues at the Ojai Recreation Department start July 7. The C League plays Monday nights, while the 35+ league plays Tuesday nights, at either 7:15, 8:15 or 9:15 p.m. Each team is guaranteed at least 11 games.
The fee is $200 per team plus a $20 referee fee per game.
Each division is limited to six teams; registration deadline is July 1. A manager's meeting will be held July 2 at 8 p.m. at the ORD. Call 646-1872 for more information on the leagues.

Youth tennis players practice at Ojai Valley Inn & Spa
The Ojai Valley Inn & Spa will hold summer junior tennis clinics Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the summer. Kids ages 7 to 10 will play in the Aces age group and will practice from 9 to 10 a.m. The Futures age group, for kids 11 to 14, will practice from 10 to 11 a.m.
Session one will be held from June 23 to July 2; session two will be held from July 7 to 16; session three will be held July 21 through 30; and session four will be held from Aug. 4 to 13.
Clinic rates: OVI members, $48 per session; non-members, $60 per session.
Classes operate on a four to six students to one teacher ratio. Individual class charges are $15 per hour for members and $18 and hour for non-members.
Instruction concentrates on the fundamentals of ground strokes, volleys, serve and return and point construction.
The following staff will instruct the classes: Tom Rohrbacher (Director of Tennis - USPTA: P-1, USRSA: MRT and Prince Advisory Staff), Dave Dike (Teaching professional, USPTA: P-2, PTR, M.Ed. P.E. and Head/Penn Team) and Sam Hirschberg (Teaching professional, USPTA, ISSA).
