Notables take helm of OPAT
By Sue Broidy

Otis Chandler and Larry Hagman were elected chairmen of the Ojai Performing Arts Theater Foundation at the August meeting; the timeline and plans for Phase I of the theater construction process were received.

Jerve and Kevin Jones of Peck-Jones Construction Co. were introduced as project builders; and a logo for The Ojai Performing Arts Theater Foundation was chosen from multiple choices submitted for consideration by Elements Design Group.

Officers of the Ojai Performing Arts Theater Foundation are: Otis Chandler, chairman; Larry Hagman, chairman; Joan Kemper, chief executive officer; Esther Wachtell, vice-chairman; Andy Belknap, chief financial officer; Lisa Meeker, secretary; and Sue Broidy, administrator.
Board members of the Ojai Performing Arts Theater Foundation are: Marty Babayco, Kathi Smith, James Berube, Dan Singer, Paul Blatz, Peggy Velarde, David Bury, Bill Wagner, Tim Baird, Patricia Weinberger, Rikki Horne, and Allan Zusman.

Phase I of The Ojai Performing Arts Theater project is the planning and final design of the 450-seat theater with 13 consultants' input. The estimated time to complete Phase I is four months at a cost of $300,000. Public input will be invited and requested this fall. David Bury & Company Architects will supervise and manage the entire project as lead architects.

Peck-Jones Construction Co., Los Angeles, has Ojai roots with two of the firm's name owners residing in Ojai. The company has also done extensive work recently at The Thacher School.

The Ojai Performing Arts Theater logo selected was chosen because it is an abstract of a building representing strength, foundation and structure, with emphasis on its own integrity rather than that of the performers or performances.

The Ojai Performing Arts Theater board is thrilled to be working in this community project and welcomes all inquiries, input and help. Contact any of the board members and/or call Joan Kemper at 649-1937 for more information.
