Coach Lonnie Stanford would like to announce openings in his fifth- to eighth-grade Ojai Lightning basketball squad.

Wildcat Golf Classic set for Oct. 3
Villanova Preparatory School will hold its annual Wildcat Golf Classic on Friday morning, Oct. 3, at the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa.
Participants and sponsors will benefit the Father John Glynn, OSA, Scholarship Fund, which provides tuition assistance to students from families demonstrating financial need. Player fee is $250 and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, gourmet lunch, goodie bag and the chance to win great prizes. Tee sign and other sponsorships are available. To become a sponsor or reserve space for one player or a foursome, contact Heather Clopton, Villanova Development Office at 646-1464. Flier and registration information are available upon request.

Learn tap and hip-hop the fun way
The Ojai Recreation Department is hosting a Tap and Hip Hop Dance Class. Beginning next Monday, the classes will improve participants' coordination, flexibility and endurance. Call the Ojai Recreation Department at 646-1872 for more information.

Relax your mind and body with t'ai chi ch'uan
T'ai chi ch'uan is an ancient meditative martial art, which Clifton Gore will guide class participants through.
It involves slow, controlled movements, whose benefits include stress reduction and improved balance and health. Loose clothing and low-heeled shoes are recommended.
Ages 16 and up are welcome to the class, which is held at the Boyd Center Mondays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Classes are $8 per participant.

Fencing classes start next week
Fencing classes will be offered by the Ojai Recreation Department starting September 10. The sport of fencing is fun, challenging and a great work-out. Call the Ojai Recreation Department to sign up or for more information at 646-1872.

Youths and adults, improve your golf game this month
The Ojai Recreation Department will be offering golf lessons for adults and youths beginning Sept. 22. Learn the game of golf at a world-class resort with professional instruction from the staff at the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa. No clubs? It's OK - all equipment will be provided.

ORD hosts drop-in b-ball, v-ball
All levels are welcome at the ORD's drop-in sports nights. Running through the end of this month, the ORD wil host a drop-in basketball night, held on Saturdays from 6 to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Volleyball will be played Sundays from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
All will be played in the ORD gym.

Team Personal Training available
Ojai Recreation Department's Teen Fitness Center in the Team Personal Training program is designed for anyone who's ever wanted to work out but didn't have the motivation. Instructors will guide participants through each class, encouraging participants to motivate each other and keep exercising. Classes will be highlighted by yoga, Pilates and other strength and flexbility excercises. Classes begin Monday and end Sept. 12. Class times are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 to 8 a.m. The class in limited to eight people, call 646-1872 to sign up now.

Make Thursday night yoga night
Join instructor Lys Martin for an evening of yoga each Thursday night at the Boyd Center.
From 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., participants will improve their stability, strength and flexibility through gentle movement, breathing and meditation. Yoga, made popular by celebrities, is a proven way to lose weight as well as gain strength and lengthen muscles.
The cost is $10 per drop-in class for ages 16 and up.
