Cate Rams knock Wildcat spikers, 3-1
By Misty Volaski
When it comes to volleyball,
Cate's girls' squad knows Villanova's weaknesses. The two teams
faced each other Wednesday night at Villanova. Despite strong
performances by Wildcat powerhouses Katie Parziale and Lauren
VanKuelen, Cate still came out on top, 3-1.
The 'Nova ladies lost their first and second games, 25-19 and
25-20, but were able to drive the Rams back with a 25-16 'Cat
win. However it wasn't enough, as hte Rams retaliated with a
25-19 win to seal their victory,
Van Kuelen yielded 32 assists, three kills, four digs and an
ace throughout the evening, while teammate Parziale contributed
in a big way with 36 kills and 17 digs to go with her two aces.
Parziale also nabbed six blocks, which effectively stopped Cate's
deadly spikes from coming into VPS territory.
Other key 'Cats included Stephanie DeSantis - who, along with
Alyssa Strom, Parziale and Van Kuelen, are also of VPS basketball
fame. DeSantis was all over the court, digging for the ball 20
times throughout the game. She also had four kills. Rounding
out Villanova's top players Wednesday was Strom, who added 11
digs.
Villanova's varsity squad will play away at Cornerstone Christian
today at 5:30 p.m.
