NHS drowns VPS
By Misty Volaski
On either side of the weekend
of the 18th and 19th, Nordhoff had a pair of games with different
results. In another matchup with Oaks Christian (this time for
Frontier League marbles) Nordhoff fell to Oaks though the Rangers
battled back from a 6-3 halftime deficit to tie the game 7-7
at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
In the first quarter, Nordhoff was down, four goals to two. The
second quarter found Nordhoff in much of the same position, still
down, 6-3. However, by the third quarter, the Rangers had rallied
back to a one-point deficit, thanks to Matt Miller and Ben Foley's
goals.
Despite Pat Kelley and Foley's three goals each during the game,
Oaks Christian overpowered Nordhoff, 11-8. The loss dropped Nordhoff
to a 5-12 record.
However, the Rangers got back in their game against VIllanova,
besting them, 16-2. VPS's goals came off of Bill Black and James
Howard. Again, Foley led the Rangers with six goals, followed
by Travis Moore, who added four and Pat Kelley, who added two.
Nordhoff also had one-goal contributions
from Tyler Buckingham, Brad Crombie, Miller and Logan Chambers.
To date, NHS goalkeeper Javier Garza has stopped 245 bals in
18 games.
The boys will battle at Malibu today, varsity at 3:15, junior
varsity at 4:15 and frosh/soph at 5 p.m.
