Buena 'Dogs pounce on Ranger water polo players, 23-3
By Misty Volaski

When Nordhoff's boys' water polo squad fought Buena last week, it looked more like a swim meet than a water polo meet. Only twice during the day - once in the first period and once in the third - did Nordhoff look like a match for the Bulldogs.

Nordhoff came out strong, but Buena came out stronger, doubling Nordhoff's score by the end of the first quarter. Ben Foley and Travis Moore contributed Nordhoff's only two points until the third quarter, when Foley scored what turned out to be the last Ranger goal.

The Bulldogs really showed their teeth in the second quarter, when they scored an additional nine goals, bringing the score to 13-2, Buena. With four more in the third and six in the fourth, Nordhoff eventually fell to the Dogs, 23-3.

Buena's Jon Sapp was solid in the goal, making nine saves and allowing just three goals on the day. Brian Condron and Scotty Simans were the Dogs' big scorers, with nine goals between them.

Javier Garza did his share defending the Ranger goal, making 13 saves to bring his individual goalie stats to 311 saved attempts on goal.

Nordhoff will complete their regular season today at home against Malibu, varsity at 3:15, junior varsity at 4:15 and frosh/soph at 5 p.m.
