Cate rams
Lady Toad spikers, 3-0
By Misty Volaski

While Cate's girls' tennis squad mourns the loss of the Condor League title to Villanova, the Rams are rejoicing in their defeat of another Ojai team, the Thacher volleyball squad.

Condor League powerhouse Cate overtook Thacher's girls' volleyball team last Friday at Thacher, 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-21).
However, Thacher (10-6) didn't let them go easily. The Chase sisters - Mackenna and Lauren - contributed to the eventually fruitless effort against Cate. Both girls got in four kills each, and Mackenna added 32 assists as setter and a dig.

Becky Horton slammed 13 kills into the Rams' faces and saved 11 balls on deep digs. Teammate Gillian St. John was both an offensive and defensive key with 10 kills and blocking three spikes. Erica Puccetti recorded 16 digs to lead the Toads for the game, and Marguerite Kissel killed seven balls and blocked two from coming into Thacher territory. Other contributors included Emma Werlin with 11 digs and Caitlin Wyman with four kills.

"The girls did a great job of rallying," said head coach Jason Burt. "We are starting the process of building a really great team." And the team can only get stronger next year, as the girls will only lose one team member to graduation in 2004.
