Breakfast Club holds on to title

Adult World Team Tennis
The Breakfast Club defeated the Libbey Liberals, 36-17, to maintain
first place in the final week of Adult World Team Tennis play.
The Club, led by captain Greg Combs, includes Kevin Kapin, Alan
Maulhardt, Kristan Altimus, Marcy Switzer, Terry Lewis, Pat Lochner
and Nicole Biotti.
In head-to-head match play, the Club won its match by 11 games,
while the Walking Wounded won their game by just two, giving
the championship to the Breakfast Club.
The Walking Wounded kept the pressure on till the end, defeating
the Singing Cat Guts, 36-26. Joyce McCarthy and Darlene Gorey
of the Wounded defeated Sarah Blaine and Heather Havins, 8-7,
finishing the season undefeated. Sarah Blaine and Steve Wickstrum
also finished undefeated as they dropped McCarthy and Jeff Kaiser,
8-7.
The season ended with the Libbey Liberals in third with a 4-4
record. The Singing Cat Guts and the Hot Shots both finished
at 1-7.
WTT begins its spring season in mid-February.
Junior World Team Tennis
The Walruses built up a seven-game lead in the first week of
their play-offs with the Red Hawks, then played even the second
week to finish with a seven-game difference, 46-39. The Hawks'
Kyle McMorrow defeated Evan Laszlo 6-2, 6-2, while Walrus Sean
O'Brien downed James Berquist 6-2, 6-2. Walruses Joe Finley
and Sam Seiders dominated both boys' doubles sets, while Alegra
Roth and Rosie Grimm split with Briana Laszlo and Christina Murillo.
McMorrow and Berquist took the final boys' doubles over Laszlo
and O'Brien 6-3, but the Walruses came back and won the first
game in the "Super Tie-Breaker" ending the match.
Third place trophies went to the Funky Monkeys as they finished
7-4 with a 29-11 win over the Speeding Sloths. Team captain,
Thomas O'Reilly, led his team with two 6-0 sets.
Fifth place went to the Stampeding Earthworms who also finished
with a 7-4 record. The Earthworms downed the Happy Hippies 28-20,
with Theresa Finley, Michael Finley, Ian Morrissey, Augusta Grimm,
Casey Robbins and John Anderson all coming up with wins for the
Worms.
The next WTT season begins in mid-February.
