· A reader sends two big thumbs-up to Mel Bloom for his article on Penny Vogel. Penny is a treasure that should never have been lost.

· The Ojai Youth Foundation would like to send a thumbs-up to Ojai Pizza for hosting a pizza party for Matilija Photography Workshop students. Ojai Pizza owner donated drinks and is displaying youth photography in the dining room. Thank you for your support!

· A reader sends a thumbs-up and bravo to the Ojai Youth Symphony, Sinfonia and Ojai Strings; they performed their winter concert to perfection. Thank you, one and all, for a wonderful evening of beautiful music.

· A reader sends a thumbs-down to the people who disregard the building code with impunity and announces so at a Planning Commission meeting. Another thumbs-down to the Planning Commission for the puny penalty it administers for major transgressions.

· A reader sends a thumbs-down to all the people who overpromise and undeliver on their commitments to local charitable groups. When you say you're going to do something, do it. Otherwise, you create a huge mess for the people who actually do the work and get little or no credit for it.

· An Arcade shopper sends a thumbs-down to those merchants which didn't participate in the latest Holiday Stroll. You missed a real opportunity to support your community while making some sales.
