Lady Rangers' water polo team charges Spartans, 8-2, in NHS win

By Misty Volaski

Nordhoff's girls' varsity water polo team scored another win last week against the Rio Mesa Spartans, 8-2.

The Lady Rangers were led in the pool by Alexa Bradley, who threw in a total of four goals on the day. She was followed by Jill Hasbruck, who netted two, and Kristin Swader and Kaley Dwire, each of whom scored a goal apiece.

Suzanne Swader and Heather Reelings dominated at defense, blocking a combined seven balls.

In contrast, the junior varsity Ranger team suffered a loss to the Spartans, 9-8, as Nordhoff couldn't seem to find the back of the net by the time the buzzer rang.

However, Nordhoff's Katie Stewart contributed five goals to the NHS side of the scoreboard, and Amanda Lee halted nine goal attempts by a more-seasoned Rio Mesa squad.

The girls are off for winter vacation until Jan. 9, when the varsity squad will compete in the Buena Tournament and the junior varsity will head off to do battle in the Santa Barbara Tournament. Call Nordhoff at 640-4343 for times.
