Battle over Planning Commission’s ‘pre-meetings’ continues

A joint meeting between the Ojai City Council and the Ojai Planning Commission Tuesday discussed the Commission’s “pre-meetings.” These meetings, involving city-paid lunches or breakfasts for the Community Development Director and two to three of the commissioners, has been a practice and a line item in the annual city budget for at least two decades. Commissioners were told when brought that on these meetings were a part of the job description; they are not done at the behest of any of the sitting commissioners.
Commissioners unanimously spoke in support of the practice Tuesday, saying it is the most efficient way to glean insight on complicated code matters so they can be adequately prepared before applicants show up for public hearings.
