It wasn’t a thing of beauty, but the Nordhoff High School varsity football team got its first win of the season, 32-6, on the road against the Beverly Hill Normans.

The Rangers could not have gotten off to a worse start, but they managed to weather the storm. On the opening play of the game, junior quarterback Parker Johnsen's pass was intercepted by a Beverly Hills defender who raced to the end zone for a pick six. The Normans missed the extra point, making the score 6-0 before the fans had settled in to their seats.

When the Rangers got the ball back, they drove down the field thanks to the hard running of senior Jake Perry, who enjoyed his best game as a Ranger. NHS took its first lead of the season on a quarterback keeper — a one-yard plunge by Johnsen. Brendon Looker added the extra point and Nordhoff took a 7-6 lead midway through the first quarter.
