14-year-old Ojai girl dies in Lake Casitas rollover accident

A single-vehicle collision caused the death of a 14-year-old girl at the Lake Casitas Recreation Area April 21.

According to officer Kevin Denharder of the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 36-year-old mother from Ventura was driving her three children, ages 8, 14 and 20 in the Lake Casitas Recreation Area at approximately 7:45 a.m., when she reportedly veered to the left and traveled down a 20-foot embankment.

CHP officials said Mia Ragans was ejected from the car and suffered major injuries. She succumbed to those injuries at the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC).

The mother and two other children sustained minor injuries and also were transported to VCMC.

The accident is under investigation, said Denharder. Anyone who witnessed or has information regarding the incident is asked to call the Ventura CHP office at 662-2640.
