Thacher downed in second round

The Thacher School girls’ basketball team battled all season and managed to earn a spot in the CIF Southern Section playoffs. In their first-round game, the Lady Toads faced Coastal Christian and won a thriller, 44-41.
In that game, Thacher was led by juniors Jessica Donohue’s 12 points and five rebounds and Evan Perry’s eight points and seven rebounds. Senior Peyton Fitzhugh also stepped up big for the Lady Toads with nine points and eight boards.
With the win, Thacher earned a Feb. 17 second-round game against Mary of the Sea. The Stars got off to a fast start and took a 14-10 lead in the half and never relinquished the lead as they cruised to a 32-26 victory over Thacher.
Once again, Donohue led Thacher in scoring with 11 points.
Thacher finished its season 9-7 overall and 8-6 in the Frontier League, which was good for third place.
