The Ojai Valley School baseball team officially opened its season Feb. 26 with a 7-0 win over Newbury Park Adventist Academy.
The team as a whole played strong throughout, with sophomore Derek Mendoza pitching a no-hitter and earning 11 strikeouts.
On top of Mendoza’s pitching, highlights included strong defense at first base from freshman Ryan Farrell and behind the plate from senior Nolan Colborn, as well as impressive hitting from junior Tyler Davis.
All in all, the game was exciting for both the athletes and the spectators, who all look forward to more success to follow in the season ahead.
Up next for the Spuds: an away game at Villanova March 13 at 4 p.m., followed by a home game March 14 against Gorman Learning Charter at 3:30 p.m.
