No to charters
OUSD suffers from declining enrollment. Yet powerful people in Ojai want to exacerbate this decline by establishing a charter school in Upper Ojai. Charter schools are destroying our traditional public schools by taking our students away along with $10,000 per student.
Informed people have emphasized that charter schools are private schools with public funding. Studies by respected institutions show that charter schools have resulted in increased segregation, failed to equally educate, particularly special education students, disrupted communities, and drained enrollment and funding from traditional public schools.
OUSD therefore needs to ensure that Summit not establish a charter school with any district approval.  Summit is a district asset. Its disposal must remain a district asset. On June 6, the OUSD board will decide what to do. Let us attend and defend our traditional public schools from the charter school destruction.
