Ojai Unified School District Superintendent Tiffany Morse

This is the electronic parent notification sent Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7:25 p.m. by Tiffany Morse, Ojai Unified School District superintendent, to OUSD families regarding the winds forecast in Ventura County and potential power shutoffs in the Ojai area.
Dear OUSD families,
The National Weather Service has issued both a high wind warning and a red flag warning through Thursday night (Oct. 31). Southern California Edison has indicated to us that they may initiate Public Safety Power Shutoffs in the Ojai area.
While we expect that all schools will be open and operating normally, we want to share our plans for a power shutoff or significant wind activity. As with each of the prior events our team has considered and weighed many factors, including student and staff health and safety, operational issues that occur when a site is without power, and the impact on families.
Due to unpredictable issues that may arise from high winds and no power, if the power is turned off prior to 6:15 am on Thursday (Oct. 31), we will not hold school at any affected sites. If this occurs, you will receive a ParentSquare message and a call.
In the case of a shut-off after students are on campus, they will remain there until the end of school day and measures will be in place to ensure safety from wind-related incidents. Students will still have access to school lunch. After school care and clubs will be cancelled.
We will share any new information we have with you in the coming days using ParentSquare, district social media, and our website, ojaiusd.org. In the case of an emergency, you will also receive a call from the district.
