Maria Fire evacuation zone grows

The mandatory evacuation zone due to the Maria Fire on South Mountain in Santa Paula is expanding.
It now includes areas south of the 126 Freeway from 12th Street in Santa Paula to Wells Road on the eastern city limits of Ventura.
That’s on top of the earlier mandatory evacuation zone that runs from South Mountain Road to the north, West Los Angeles Avenue to the west, Balcom Canyon Road to the east and Highway 118 to the south.
The wind-driven fire, reported shortly 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, was 0 percent contained as of 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
The fire had burned approximately 8,730 acres. Two homes have been lost, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
