The ROSA Total Knee Replacement System will be offered at Ojai Valley Community Hospital.

Ojai Valley Community Hospital is enhancing its surgical program and introducing the cutting-edge ROSA Total Knee Replacement System, a new robotically assisted surgical system that enhances total knee replacement surgery. “Rosa Robot” will be welcomed at a public celebration of the hospital’s Surgical Department relaunch on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 4:30 p.m. at the hospital main entrance, 1306 Maricopa Highway. Refreshments will be served.
Ojai Valley Community Hospital is the only Tri-counties hospital to offer the new knee-replacement system, according to Haady Lashkari, the hospital’s chief administrative officer. The ROSA Total Knee Replacement System brings the most advanced joint replacement technology to Ojai Valley Community Hospital, Lashkari said, noting total joint replacement is among the most commonly performed elective surgeries in the United States. ROSA knee is a robotically assisted surgical system that assists with bone resections and assessing the state of soft tissues to facilitate implant positioning intraoperatively. Data provided by ROSA knee enables surgeons to use computer and software technology to control and move surgical instruments, allowing for greater precision and flexibility during procedures.
“Over the years, Community Memorial Health System, the Ojai hospital and the Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation have been dedicated to upgrading and remodeling the Ojai hospital campus so that it meets the community’s needs and also is one that is regarded by many as a place that patients will want to come to get care,” said Lashkari.
OVCH also offers general surgery with Dr. Lisa Babashoff, minimally Invasive OB/GYN surgery with Dr. Kayvahn P. Steck-Bayat, and podiatry surgery with Dr. James Beaty. Knee-replacement surgeries with the ROSA system are available from surgeons Thomas Golden, Petros Frousiakia and Stephan Sweet.
The nonprofit Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation raised $600,000 to bring the ROSA Total Knee Replacement System to OVCH. “This shows how much Ojai Valley residents value their hospital,” said Foundation President Steve Frank. Since its inception in 2005, the Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation has given more than $11 million to support the Ojai hospital and its Continuing Care Center.
With regard to purchasing the ROSA knee system for OVCH, Frank said, “This the first time I am aware of that we were given the opportunity to participate in something that will make a big difference in the longevity of revenue and importance for the hospital. It will enhance patient care and give patients an opportunity to experience cutting-edge surgery that is only being experienced at a few places in the state.”
OVCH is a 25-bed acute care hospital with an emergency room, four beds for intensive-care patients and 21 medical/surgical beds that also can serve patients needing skilled nursing care. The hospital also has a 66-bed Continuing Care Center and is building a new, modernized CCC with 75 beds, opening in 2020. Visit to learn more about the Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation.
