“Love Letters” will be performed Feb, 23 at the Jewish Community of Ojai, 530 W. El Roblar, Meiners Oaks.
“Love Letters” is a drama originally nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, with two characters. The play involves the reading of letters by the couple to each other, spanning their lifetimes. In the letters, they discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, and victories and defeats through the years.
Actors —husband-and-wife Howard and Nancy Leader — bring this “Love Letters” to Ojai for a performance Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m. at the Jewish Community of Ojai, 530 W. El Roblar, Meiners Oaks.
Throughout, the poignancy of their emotions is both touching and enlightening.
The two actors have been married twice to each other, the first time for 22 years, and the present marriage of eight years and holding. This love story is almost a duplicate of their personal lives.
Howard first met Nancy while working as a policeman with the Los Angeles Police Department. Nancy was a student at Santa Monica City College. They became engaged after 10 days of dating, and married three months later. After retiring from the Police Department, Howard owned and operated a successful private- investigation firm. He retired from the real world in 2005, and enrolled in an acting class at a local college. He became hooked, and has performed on the Rubicon stage as well as in other theaters.
Nancy decided that sewing, quilting and being a grandma to their three grandchildren were most important to her.
In 2016, Howard convinced Nancy to perform “Love Letters” with him. After two performances, they agreed that whenever they performed this play, it would be together.
