Dr. Hans Gruenn of Ojai: 'Now is the time to cultivate vital health' at 1-day 'Vital Health Experience' online with Zoom

It’s clear that many of us are facing difficult times in the midst of this global pandemic. The disruption of our normal routines, fear of illness, concern for loved ones, loneliness, and, for some, a loss of income can pose serious challenges to our well-being at a time when resilience to disease matters most. On the bright side, this can be the perfect time to reassess our values and take steps to deepen our commitment to our own health, and the health and vitality our loved ones and community.

The difference between health and disease comes down to the small choices we make every day. Managing stress, eating healthfully, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, living a low-toxicity lifestyle and avoiding the devastation of loneliness and despair, are critical for protecting us against COVID-19 as well as for preventing chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s. If there was ever a time to follow through with simple lifestyle changes that will make a fundamental difference for you, that time is now.

Simple steps that we can take on our own might include increasing the amount of greens and colorful vegetables in our diet; taking a brisk walk in nature and aiming to break a sweat; inviting a friend to walk with us at a safe social distance; speaking with friends and loved ones on the phone, or spending time in “virtual community” using apps like Zoom, Skype, or Face Time. We might also take a warm bath or meditate before bedtime, and take a few minutes at the end of the day reflecting upon the things for which we’re grateful. These little lifestyle changes can affect big improvements in our physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.

Since the onset of the COVID-19, the Ojai health community has been “gathering” in free online Zoom meeting rooms on Wednesdays and Sundays where I have been sharing the ever-increasing body of knowledge about the coronavirus, and the measures we can all take to stay healthy, and answering questions.

Some of the participants in these online meetings had attended a two-day “Health Intensive” on the foundations of a healthy lifestyle that I'd organized with a team of specialist health care professionals last winter. For those who did not have the opportunity to attend the Intensive, those who wish to deepen their commitment to health, and those who are wanting to make this commitment to their health now, I and my colleagues will be offering a one-day “Vital Health Experience” online with Zoom, this coming Sunday, April 26, beginning at 10 a.m. (to learn more, go to ).

Admission to the Vital Health Intensive is $75 to help defray costs, but if you require financial assistance, please call us to request a sliding scale ticket: 805-633-9121. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. We’re all in this together!
