Honoring Nordhoff's Hall of Fame athletes, Part 9

Omar Vega helped the Nordhoff Rangers to three state cross country titles during his hall of fame career at NHS.

In this multipart feature, we continue our effort to honor student-athletes who have been inducted into the Nordhoff High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The week we’ll recognize the members of the thirteenth and final class, which were inducted in 2016. The featured outstanding student-athletes include: 
Hall of Fame Class 13, inducted in 2016
Mason Moore – Cross Country (graduated in 1996): In cross country, Moore was all-league, all-county, all-CIF, and all-state while being a member of three league and CIF championship teams. Moore was also a member of the league championship track team and he went on to become an all-conference performer in the steeplechase while attending UCLA.
Omar Vega – Cross Country (graduated in 1996): Vega was a three-time all-league, all-county, all-CIF, and all-state runner on three state championship cross country teams while at Nordhoff. He also earned all-county and all-CIF in track as a four-year letterman. Vega went on to run both cross country and track for both Ventura College and Cal State Northridge.
Terrah Chapin – Cross Country (graduated in 1997): Chapin was the leading runner on four CIF championship teams and two state championship squads while at Nordhoff. She was chosen all-league, all-county, all-CIF, and all-state in Cross Country when the Rangers girls' team was ranked number two in the nation (in 1995 and 1996). Chapin also helped her track team to a second place finish in CIF and was a two-time league champion in swimming.
Nell Becker – Basketball (graduated in 1998): Becker was all-league, all-county, and all-CIF in basketball helping to lead her team to the CIF finals and qualifying for the state tournament. She helped lead her team to two league championships in both 1995 and 1997. Becker is still the all-time leader in both assists and steals while continuing to hold the Ventura County single game record for assists. After high school, Becker went on to play for Point Loma College where she started at point guard for all four years.
Victor Ochoa – Cross Country (graduated in 1998): Ochoa was a three-time all-league, all-county, all-CIF, and all-state runner while winning the individual league championship as a senior and then finishing in second place in the state meet. He was a leading member of three state championship teams who also excelled for Nordhoff's track teams all four years. Ochoa went on to Ventura College where he earned the MVP award in cross country two different seasons.
Mike Lemon – Cross Country/Track (graduated in 1999): In track, Lemon was the Ventura County champion in the 800 meters and CIF champion in the 1600. He also earned all-CIF honors as a member of the team's 4x400 relay squad and advanced to the Masters' meet in the 800. Lemon also excelled for the cross country team, helping to lead his team to the state championship as a senior. After high school, Lemon ran both track and cross country for Westmont College where he earned a total of six NAIA All-American awards and one National Championship.
Jenna Hunter – Soccer (graduated in 2000): Hunter earned all-league, all-county and all-CIF honors in soccer while being chosen as "Offensive Player of the Year" as a senior. She helped lead the team to its first two league titles while she became the all-time leading scorer in school history. Hunter went on to play at Humboldt State University where she was picked All-Conference all four years. She also made the NCAA All-Western Regional team in 2004 and was the NSCA All-American "Athlete of the Year" in 2003. Upon college graduation, she held the Humboldt State record for goals and assists.
Jeff Barrett – Swimming (graduated in 2001): Barrett, who lettered all four years at Nordhoff, was the CIF record holder in the 100 and 200 freestyle while also being the CIF champion in three events as a senior. For his outstanding senior season, Barrett was chosen Ventura County "Swimmer of the Year" in 2001. Barrett went on to set many records at Ventura College where he earned 2003 Western State Conference and California Community College "Swimmer of the Year" honors while becoming a five-time state champion and three-time national champion. Later, Barrett achieved All-American recognition at Arizona State University while also competing in the 2008 Olympic trials.
Ken Reeves – Coach (1980-2010): After four years as the head soccer coach, Reeves transitioned to the cross country and track programs where his teams had amazing success. His teams won 14 state championships (nine for the boys and five for the girls) and numerous league titles in both cross country and track. Reeves was named National High School "Coach of the Year" in both 1999 and 2000 and later he was inducted into both the Ventura County Coaches Hall of Fame as well as the California High School Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame.  After retiring from Nordhoff in 2010, Reeves resumed his coaching a few years later with championship teams at Foothill Tech in Ventura.
