Friday, Jan. 29, is the deadline for people to decide if they want to participate in the city of Ventura water adjudication lawsuit, and file an answer with the court.
Ojai Valley property owners who received a summons from the city of Ventura are a party to the litigation and may want to file a response to protect their water rights.
Unless they file an answer with the court, people who got a notice are not a party to the lawsuit.
The deadline to respond was extended three times to give property owners more time to review a locally proposed plan and settlement agreement developed by a coalition of large water users.
The “physical solution” was released Sept. 15 by the group that includes the city of Ventura, Ventura River Water District and Meiners Oaks Water District.
The document is available for review at www.venturariver.com.
Property owners who choose to enter the case can fill out and submit court-approved forms, available at www.venturariverwatershedadjudication.com.
The next status conference in the case, in Los Angeles Superior Court, is set for Feb. 9, with remote access available via http://www.lacourt.org/newsmedia/ui/CourtroomSeating.aspx.
