Teacher and ag workers' vaccines, sports openings, and more on county COVID-19 update

2 23 21 BOS 4 The Ventura County Board of Supervisors got an update on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, schools reopening, business assistance programs and more at its Feb. .23 meeting.

Ventura County government announced that starting March 1, new groups in Ventura County will be eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccines, as supplies allow. They are teachers and child care providers, first responders, and food and agricultural workers, who fall under the county's Phase 1B tier of vaccine eligibility.

Ventura County Public Health Director Rigoberto Vargas reported the COVID-19 numbers for Tuesday, Feb. 23:

— 136 new confirmed COVID-19 cases.
— 5,500 newly tested.
Vargas said that Ventura County's testing volume is among the best in the state.
— 11 additional deaths of people with COVID-19.

— 143 in hospital with COVID-19, an improvement over Feb. 22 when there were 154 hospitalized in Ventura County with COVID-19.

— 28 in intensive care units with COVID-19
